Tip:
Which Glue Is Best?
Customers
often ask which glue they should use for various projects.
Here is a summary of the glues our expert dollhouse-builder recommends.
To attach:
- Bare
wood to bare wood (no paint or stain on either piece),
use wood glue or the "Ultimate Glue."
- Bare
wood to a painted or stained surface (or two painted or
stained surfaces to one another), use white glue. We prefer the "Ultimate
Glue."
- Wood
shingles to a wood roof, use Quick Grab®. Quick Grab®
sets quickly. so shingles stay in place immediately.
- Polystyrene
sheets (the sheets simulating brick or stone, for example)
to wood, use Gloop.
- Siding
to bare wood, use Quick Grab®. Remember to "burp"
the siding (pull it away from the house and then touch it to the house
again several times). This creates "strings" of glue that
hold the siding firmly in place.
- Carpeting
to bare wood, use carpet tape or Stick M®, rather
than glue. Glue oozes out or bleeds through.
- Paper
flower petals to metal stems, use white glue with a drop
of Zap-a-Gap® to make it set faster.
- Almost
anything to almost anything else, use a glue we recently
discovered called the "Ultimate Glue." We tested this glue
and found it to be excellent for most gluing jobs, except for attaching
siding and shingles. Ray Whitledge recommends the "Ultimate Glue"
highly and uses it in his classes.
